Ophelia Plumbs the Depths
Lesley Stone, 2003, Digital Collage
Lesley Stone is a graphic designer-illustrator living
in Red Hook. Her client list includes Upstate Films and Reader’s
Digest. These days she is (mostly) happy to make stuff using a Mac, but
past experiences with Xacto knives, halftone screens, and darkrooms continue
to inform her work. She finds inspiration in Victoriana, “Buffy
the Vampire Slayer,” and junk stores.
Stone created this month’s cover image specifically for Chronogram.
Stone’s use of water imagery and Victorian clip art as an exploration
of femininity in modern society is a recurring theme in her work.
