Sparrow’s un-Fan Club

To the Editor:
An Open Letter to Sparrow: It is high time you quit the stage. You have not an ounce not an iota not a scintilla of poetry, humor, ingenuity, or even cleverness in your work and to call what you foist on the public at large “poetry” is to insult poets and poetry en masse. To quote Diderot: “Not only is your poetry not any good, but I can tell it will never be any good.” I call upon you to step aside for the good of the arts and let someone else have your pages, since you are literally a waste of space in what is otherwise a publication that has some excellent articles. Perhaps the space you relinquish can be given to a different writer each month, to share his or her words, and this act on your part will be the best thing you will ever do for the good of poetry and the printed word. I leave you with a poem:

Poem for Sparrow
You suck.

On the cover of our 2/02 issue, we featured a photograph by Valerie Shaff of a very cute—“goofy looking,” says Shaff—baby Highlander cow. We were remiss, however, in noting that the cover photo was provided by the Carrie Haddad Gallery, which represents Shaff.

Our apologies.

On February 19, the Biennial Photography Show opened at Carrie Haddad Gallery, featuring the work of David Halliday, Richard Kahn and Richard Selesnick, Fawn Potash, Robert Hechler, Joy Goldkind, Mark MacKinnon, Chad Kleitsch, Rosemary, Leo Maitz, and YunJung Kim.
